Bill
Conerly is an economist with additional training in financial analysis,
plus experience in corporate strategy evaluation and development. His
experience includes:
Forecasting models: U.S., international, regional, financial markets, company-specific.
Description of the economic environment: Identification and description of the key factors affecting a company or industry.
Evaluation of company results: For example, is a sales gain due to the economy, the industry, or the company?
Industry analysis:
What drives business in a particular industry? What are the possible
strategies for competitive advantage, and what is needed to implement
them?
Incentive systems: What kind of incentive system will achieve the desired behavior from the participants?

Business strategy:
Does a given strategy make sense from the standpoint of a competitive
economy? What kind of customer and competitor reaction is likely from a
strategy? How can the strategy be modified to protect profits from
competitive pressures?
Business valuation: What is this business or division worth in the marketplace?
Recent Projects
Economics of Electronic Commerce: For an investment bank,
Bill analyzed the fundamental economic factors behind electronic
commerce, distinguishing between solid foundation and investment hype.
Identified strategies that make sense, and barriers to rapid adoption
of electronic commerce.
Expert Witness: Provided
testimony or reports. Two involve savings and loan associations,
stemming from the changes in regulations in 1990, one of which is among
the largest federal claims ever filed. Other expert reports have
involved mortgage interest rates and business valuation.
Real Estate Economics:
Bill makes presentations to
real estate investors and developers. He has analyzed the economic
impacts of a new sand and gravel facility, worked on the economic implications of development of health care facilities, and has
assessed the economic outlook of different metropolitan areas for a
major real estate investor.
Thinking Economics: an interactive textbook:
Associate editor of an interactive high school economics "textbook," to
be delivered via the Internet and CD-ROM, in which economics will come
alive via video, animated charts and interactive exercises as well as
traditional words and charts.
Tax Analysis:
Prepared a study of Oregon's state income tax on capital gains for
Associated Oregon Industries. Bill is frequently consulted by members
of the legislature and lobbyists about tax revenue issues.
