What is the biggest business challenge you face right now?  Don’t limit yourself to economic issues, and please don’t mention any names (as in, "I’m thinking about firing Joe.")  Hit the "Comments" link directly below this paragraph, and your challenge will be posted for the world to see.  If you prefer, just send me an email and I’ll keep your problems under my hat.

In our industry the biggest challenge we face is “Driver Shortages”. We hire only drivers with two years experience and that have good driving records. The driver shortage is only projected to get worse over the next several years until such time as the wages exceed other competing industries such as construction. We are faced with the possibility of training brand new drivers or lowering our standards from to 2 years experience to ?????. What’s the risk of doing this? or of not doing this?

In the word of mouth marketing industry, the biggest challenge is that many clients fail to realize that there are two prerequistites to generating great buzz. First, you must be have a great product or service. Second, your business must be unique and memorable so people spread the word about what your business does. Too many people think that buzz is just a switch that can be turned on.

  • The Labor Market Is Tight Despite High Unemployment February 19, 2021
Finding workers is hard despite the high unemployment rate, because many jobless folks don't match the skills needed, don't want to shift occupations or prefer to collect unemployment. Business focus on retention should be top priority.

Seems no matter where I go, I hear you talking – and always doing a great job with different material well tailored to the audience. Very impressive!
Alan Shiffer, World Vision
We asked Bill Conerly to look at one of the major factors limiting the growth of our business. He pulled together data from a wide range of sources, as well as his own extensive business knowledge, to give us an insight into when conditions would improve and how we could be ready to capitalize on better times. He did so in a straight forward, easy to understand manner. A year later it was clear that things had evolved just as he had forecast. Ever since then he’s been my go-to guy on how the e…
Len Ludwig, former CEO, Vencore Capital LLC
On multiple occasions we have engaged Dr. Conerly to facilitate, and more importantly, stimulate strategic planning sessions. He artfully brings the complexity of economic consequences to light, and is also is a veteran voice of objectivity. And his ability to inject humor keeps the energy and teamwork a priority!
Greg Newton, CFO, Cascade Bancorp
Bill’s presentation was neatly balanced…rich with content.. and our audience really enjoyed his humor.
Bing Sheldon, SERA Architects
The ratings you received from our banker evaluations were among the highest I’ve seen, which matched my impressions exactly. Your presentation style is quite engaging, you bring interesting and valuable content, and our ability to interact in a stimulating way during “Q&A” sessions makes you a valuable addition to any meeting agenda. As a bonus, you are a genuinely enjoyable participant in conference activities beyond your presentation.
Steve Yeakel, Montana Independent Bankers
