Audio Magazine

I’m working up a monthly audio magazine, which you soon can receive on a CD to play in your car, or via podcast or download if you want to listen to me on your Ipod while exercising.  It will be an easy way to stay up to date on the economy, without taking time away from your business.

Listen to two sample tracks, and let me know what you think

1. The national economic outlook (about 20 minutes)
2. Yahoo’s Peanut Butter Manifesto (a comment on corporate strategy, about 3 minutes)

Listened to the peanut butter manifesto mp3.
    Interesting discussion
There’s a little popping/splosives on the microphone. A pop screen and a bit of mic technique can help that. (I do a little bit of music recording, and often instead of speaking directly into a mic, instead angling away a tad can reduce the splosives considerably. When singing, I find a pop filter is helpful for keeping a singer at a uniform distance from the mic while the mesh also helps with air bursts.
I’m currently getting some exposure to marketing in my current work, after moving from departments such as controllers and underwriting/product management. It’s so difficult to understand the impacts of some initiatives at the company level and so often strong disagreements are in place as to what actually makes the business go on the margin. The marketing folks will talk about reduced advertising spend, share of voice, etc. The product side talks about competitor activities, ease of doing business, staffing, etc. controllers tries to quantify so many things but rarely can any clear identification be done to determine what’s really driving the business because so many things change at the same time. I think that’s why we often arrive at incremental across-the-board funding cuts across deptartments. My take anyhow…

  • The Labor Market Is Tight Despite High Unemployment February 19, 2021
Finding workers is hard despite the high unemployment rate, because many jobless folks don't match the skills needed, don't want to shift occupations or prefer to collect unemployment. Business focus on retention should be top priority.
